207 Special Coating Hardener

Wouldn't it be great if there were an epoxy that could be used regardless of the humidity conditions, even for clear finished projects like wood strip canoes? And wouldn't it be nice if that epoxy had ultra violet filters incorporated into the formulation and offered strong physical properties so it could be used as a structural adhesive for gluing and laminating? And as long as we are wishing, why not make it so it could be recoated anytime within 12 hours without additional surface prep? It would be great too if the epoxy cured hard enough to sand within 24 hours so a project could move along without waiting days for epoxy to harden. It would also be nice if any kind of paint or varnish could be applied over the epoxy without having to worry about the paint not drying or hardening.

WEST SYSTEM® Brand 105 Resin with 207 Special Coating Hardener can do all of these things and more. The fact that it is the best hardener for clear finishing and fabric application may be the best-kept secret in wooden boat building circles. 207 Hardener has always offered excellent low blush characteristics-as good as any epoxy you will find anywhere. That includes the products advertised as no blush formulations.

Premier wood strip boatbuilders like Mac MacCarthy and Ted Moores have been using WEST SYSTEM 105 Resin/207 Special Coating Hardener for years for clear finish projects. They like it because it always cures clear, can be sanded the following day, and lets them apply three or more coats in one day. Experts also appreciate the excellent fiberglass wet out characteristics they can achieve with this epoxy, yet it requires fewer coats to fill fiberglass weave than the very-low viscosity systems. Because of its reliability and ease of use, 207 Special Coating Hardener is also ideal for amateur builders.

804 Reusable Mixing Sticks
We're proud to announce the new 804 Reusable Mixing Sticks. These practical mixing, application, filleting and cleaning tools have found many places in our workshop toolboxes and we believe they will in yours, too. The squared, beveled end reaches into the square corners of the 805 and 806 Mixing Pots for thorough mixing of epoxy and blending of fillers. It is also good for cleaning and removing the small ridges of uncured epoxy left from a filleting job. As a wedge, it can be used to "pop" parts off a mold and where other tools may potentially mar the project. The opposite end of the tool is rounded, excellent for shaping clean, 3/8" radius fillets.

The tool's shape and bevel make it easy to pick up from a flat surface, even while wearing epoxy-coated gloves. Cured epoxy easily pops off the polished polyethylene surface, so the stick can be reused many times. Because epoxy won't readily stick to the plastic, you can use the stick itself as a clamping face when you don't want clamps or other materials stuck to a project, for example, when gluing scarf joints. Let us know your "other uses" for these great, little Reusable Mixing Sticks so we can include them in future editions of Epoxyworks.
